2024년 3월31일 일요일 오후8시반에 인도 BIG TV에서 방영한 LG화학 인도참사를 다룬 [POISON HUG]라는 제목의 다큐멘터리입니다. LG인도참사는 2020년 5월7일 발생해서 올해로 4년째를 맞고 있습니다. 'LG 폴리머스 인디아'라는 이름의 엘지화학 계열사인데, 2020년 5월7일 새벽 2시경 발암물질인 스티렌 가스와 에어로졸이 800톤 넘게 누출되었고 잠자던 인근 인도주민 2만명이 긴급 대피해야했고 사고당일에만 12명이 사망하고 500명이상이 병원에 입원한 대참사였습니다. 당시는 코로나19가 극심하던때여서 더욱 피해가 컸습니다. 엘지는 피해대책에 최선을 다하겠다고 했지만 4년이 지나는 지금까지 사망자를 포함해 단 한명의 인도 피해자들에게 배보상을 하지 않았고, 공장은 방치한 상태입니다. 6세와10세 어린이 19세 의과대학생 등 어린이와 청년 그리고 40대, 50대, 60~80대에 이르는 다양한 연령층의 사망자가 발생했습니다. 

이 다큐멘터리는 20여분짜리이고 텔루구 언어입니다. 엘지화학인도공장이 있는 인도 중동부지역의 안드라프라데시 주와 텔랑가나 주에서 사용하는 언어로 사용인구는 8천만명이 넘습니다. 현재 BIG TV측에 영어자막과 한글자막을 선택할 수 있도록 요청해놓았습니다. 

일단 텔루구어로 된 프로그램을 살펴보시죠. 당시의 생생한 피해와 사망유족의 절절한 목소리를 들을 수 있습니다.    

This is a documentary titled [POISON HUG] about the LG Chem India disaster that aired on BIG TV in India at 8:30 PM on Sunday, March 31, 2024. The LG India disaster occurred on May 7, 2020, and is now in its fourth year. It is a subsidiary of LG Chemical under the name of 'LG Polymers India'. At around 2 am on May 7, 2020, more than 800 tons of styrene gas and aerosol, which are carcinogens, leaked, and 20,000 sleeping nearby Indian residents had to be evacuated. It was a catastrophe in which 12 people died on the day and more than 500 were hospitalized. At that time, COVID-19 was at its peak, so the damage was even greater. LG said it would do its best to deal with the damage, but four years later, it has not compensated a single Indian victim, including the deceased, and the factory has been left abandoned. The deaths occurred in children and young people, including children aged 6 and 10, and a 19-year-old medical school student, as well as people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s to 80s.

This documentary is about 20 minutes long and is in Telugu language. It is a language spoken in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the central-eastern region of India, where the LG Chemical India plant is located, and has a population of over 80 million Telugu speakers.
