PRESS STATEMENT

Human beings has long sought to protect the sea, a common asset and future
The United Nations Convention on London and the Madrid Protocol

have prevented marine dumping of land waste.

The Pacific Ocean is not a dumping ground for Fukushima nuclear power.
Japan to abide by the United Nations Convention for the Protection of the Sea

The G7, the summit countries and the hosted countries

should express concern and opposition about the trial of

Fukushima nuclear power plant contaminated water Pacific Ocean dumping

From May 19 to 21, 2023, a three-day G7 summit will be held in Hiroshima, Japan, consisting of major Western countries such as United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Japan. Aside from discussions on major international issues such as diplomacy and economy, the host country has moved to carry out Tokyo's position at a series of sector-specific ministerial meetings ahead of the G7 summit.

In particular, the Japanese Environment Minister was embarrassed by the German Environment Minister when he said at a press conference that the G7 countries supported the Japanese government's plan.

The sea is a common asset and a future for mankind. In particular, mankind has been trying to protect the sea for a long time. As a result, the United Nations has eradicated marine dumping of land waste through the London Convention and the Madrid Protocol.

In the case of Korea, industrial waste sludge, human waste, food waste, and livestock waste have been dumped in the East Sea and West Sea for a long time until 2013, using the exceptions of the London Convention and the Madrid Protocol. At that time, Japan expressed concern that Korea threw away waste near Japanese waters in the East Sea. That's right. You shouldn't throw trash into the sea.

However, the Japanese government is now openly pushing for a plan to dump millions of tons of Fukushima nuclear wastewater into the Pacific Ocean. It is also making diplomatic moves to make it seem that the international community supports this behavior.

The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean in the world, and if the Pacific Ocean is polluted, all the oceans in the world are polluted. The Pacific Ocean is not a dumping ground for Fukushima nuclear power. Japan must abide by the United Nations Convention for the Protection of the Sea.

The G7 Summit is an organization that should take the lead in protecting the peace and environment of the global community, including war and climate crisis. If so, of course, G7 should express concern and oppose the Fukushima nuclear power plant contaminated water Pacific Ocean dumping plan.

Countries such as South Korea, India, Australia, Brazil, and Indonesia invited to the G7 summit should also express their determination that the Pacific Ocean should not be a dumping ground for Fukushima nuclear wastewater.
